We’d like to present the very first STSL Simply Super Award to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA!
Project Downsize & Declutter continues at my house, so we had a donation of toys, leashes and bowls to take to the shelter last weekend. A shelter sounds pretty depressing with all those unwanted animals, but this one is so clean, spacious and bright with such a friendly staff, I felt revitalized by walking around amongst those wagging and purring bundles of love.
Not only is CASPCA a no-kill shelter but they are also doing some great green stuff. With funding assistance from Dominion Virginia Power, they recently installed 46 solar panels on the roof of the building, each generating about 235 watts of power - which means every panel can power five laptops. While clearly the place won’t be solely solar, it’s a good start. Check out a video about the installation.
If you’d like to donate supplies like we did, check out their Wish List. While pet food is top of the list, they even need simple stuff like pens, dryer sheets and spray bottles. Another way to help out would be to buy that awesome Schuyler Fisk song Love Somebody- proceeds help out the C'Ville SPCA and it makes me cry happy tears every time I hear it.
Not everyone’s schedule and life is conducive to being shared with a dog or cat. But if you are pet-prepared, offering a forever home a second-hand animal is an incredible gift. Husband and I are not ready to add another member to our family just yet but I know when we are – we’ll be cruising the SPCA.
So, there you go, CASPCA. We present you with an award that is pretty meaningless, except for the fact that we think you are super cool. Congrats!!

A lot of people consider their pets as a part of their family. It's good that there is a shelter that provides a home for the homeless animals. It's even better to hear that the shelter is using green systems like solar roof panels. Kudos to them!
